Can Mitt Romney Talk to a Crowd?

Mitt Romney is not exactly "winning them over" in Iowa. Although Romney is a favorite overall, he's struggling there. This is also considering he was initially skipping the Ames Straw Poll. It also doesn't help your general likability among independents when you have soundbites like this:

I've read and seen that Mitt Romney is a bit out of touch when it comes to talking to the everyday person. Remember the last time he ran for President?

I think this is more proof that he really can't work over a crowd or deal with hecklers. If Romney were to become President, he will need to be able to do both, and clearly this is not how to handle it. Maybe Romney has the right idea when he is avoiding Iowa to in the first place. This could help, but if one of the other candidates gets a huge swing in momentum from the caucus, he could be in a lot of trouble.

Talking to a crowd is one thing the President has to do well. If the President fails to do that, the media will make a mockery of him or her.

EDIT (9:08 PM): Romney is NOT skipping the Fox News "softball game" this evening.
