James Dobson has a message from God:
So vote Republican or suffer the consequences? Is that really a great way to spread the message for the Republican Party? I actually think Dobson is right about 2012 being a crucial election, but I don't think he's seeing it like I do. I see 2012 as a turning point for non-religious and non-Christian individuals.
A Republican loss in 2012 for Dobson would mean less of a platform in the public square. He's highly respected among his GOP colleagues. It would also mean that in some cases religious appeals may not work as well as they have in the past. For example, we are seeing states overturn same-sex marriage bans despite religious opposition. Person-hood amendments, which are generally sponsored by religious organizations, have been turned down in traditionally religious states (Mississippi for example). There might be a changing attitude towards religion in the US, but it's hard to say this is absolutely true without further quantifiable evidence.
However, if this is the case, 2012 is a very crucial year for non-Christian and non-religious individuals.
